RLSS UK NPLQ Course Overview
The RLSS UK NPLQ Lifeguard course at Urban Training Centre is a comprehensive training program designed to equip participants with the essential skills to respond effectively in emergency situations involving both adults and children. This course covers a wide range of topics, including assessing and managing medical emergencies, performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), using an automated external defibrillator (AED), and providing critical care in scenarios such as choking, sudden cardiac arrest, and severe injuries.
Participants will learn how to recognize signs of distress and administer appropriate first aid techniques to stabilize a casualty until professional medical help arrives. With a focus on hands-on practice and real-world application, this course ensures that learners feel confident and capable in handling emergencies across different age groups. Upon successful completion, participants receive a globally recognized certification valid for two years, ensuring high-quality training that meets international safety standards.
Key Learning Objectives:
- Handle Medical Emergencies: Respond confidently to sudden illnesses, fractures, and aquatic trauma until professional medical help arrives.
- Professional Lifeguard: Understand team communication, customer care, risk management, and the legal responsibilities of a qualified lifeguard.
- Administer Life Support and First aid: Perform high-quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants, safely operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and manage choking, severe bleeding, and shock.
- Execute Water Rescues: Perform a variety of rescue techniques, including land-based rescues, dynamic water entries, tow methods, and spinal injury management in both shallow and deep water.
Course Structure:
-Duration: Typically, the course is delivered over 5 days, followed by an independent practical and theoretical assessment.
- Assessment: Conducted on the final day by an external RLSS UK Assessor. Includes a practical pool demonstration, a practical first aid/CPR assessment, and a verbal/written theory exam.
Certification and Validity:
Upon successful completion, participants will receive RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) — the gold standard in aquatic safety. This is valid for 2 years.
To remain qualified, lifeguards must complete a minimum of 20 hours of ongoing training and competency assessments over the 2-year period prior to renewing their certification.
Who Should Attend?
This qualification is ideal for ambitious teens heading off to university in the UK who are looking for a highly respected, flexible, and well-paid part-time job on campus or at local leisure facilities. Because the NPLQ is a rigorous and physically demanding certification, it is best suited for strong, confident swimmers who are ready to master professional lifesaving and emergency response skills.
It is also an excellent career booster for existing sports coaches, swim instructors, and seasoned lifeguards looking to gain an internationally revered qualification.
Please note for lifeguards operating within Dubai: while the RLSS NPLQ is the UK’s gold-standard qualification, individuals wishing to work locally must also hold the relevant EIAC-accredited training and DCAS-approved First Aid certification to meet local regulatory requirements.
